The particularly extensive forests of Aleppo pine are one of the characteristic features of the landscape of Skopelos. The wide bedrock of dolomite favours their development and the trees grow very tall and, in many parts, form dense forests, which sometimes run all the way down to the sea. Until a few decades ago, the people of Skopelos extracted resin from these trees. Often, among the pines grow bushes of holms oak and heather, thus forming a substratum.

Along the banks of streams and dry riverbeds, grow small groves of plane trees. Other places are mainly covered with brushwood, moss and wild flowers. In some parts of the island olive groves or orchards of plum, orange and lemon trees, interrupt the natural vegetation. The various shades of green, combined with the blue, turquoise and azure of the restless, endless sea, create images of unparalleled beauty.

On Skopelos Island, you can find all kinds of wild herbs like oregano, mint, basil, thyme and all kinds of wild flowers like anemones, poppies, daisies, Easter lilies, daffodils, marigolds, iris and many more.
